Five Favourites: The Best Matte Lipsticks

Maybe its the windy weather (its never fun when your hair sticks to your lipgloss), or the brief tan I've accumulated during my holiday to Boa Vista thats fueling my current obsession with a matte lip? Whatever the cause - I'm in love. The pigment is far more intense, the colour much more long lasting & I adore the finish of a matte lipstick against flawless, peachy skin.

I've selected my all time favourite colours and formulas;
Mac Please Me £13 - The most perfect pink for my skin tone. I use this pretty much every day when I need to inject a subtle burst of colour into a often dull complexion. The Mac matte formulas are ultra long-lasting in comparison to other finishes, Lustre, Cremesheen - I'm talking to you!
Illamasqua Scandal £15.50 - Looks scary in the tube, but applied is the most beautiful coral-pink. Perfection when combined with Nars Orgasm blush, the shimmer in the blush is devine with a simple, natural matte lip.
Nars Semi Matte Viridiana Lipstick £17.50 - A beautiful dark, rich burgundy - and surprisingly one of the most wearable lipsticks I own. The formula is described as semi matte, however I find it amazingly pigmented with a velvety finish that lasts hours.
Mac Ruby Woo £13 - The best red lipstick ever created. Ever. Suits everyone, the matte finish is so modern and fresh. The only red I ever reach for. All the same benefits as the Please Me with the formulas being almost identical.
Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil £17.50 - Matte lipsticks can get quite dry in the tube and become difficult to apply as they lose their shape without the use of a lip brush, I firmly believe Fancois Nars created the best invention since sliced bread with this beauty. Simply sharpen the jumbo sized pencil (idential in size to Benefit pencils) and paint on! You can do it with your eyes closed. Quick, easy, great for creating shape in thin lips.

What are your favourite lipsticks? Are you a fan of the matte look?

  1. Just had a look at your blog lovely - it's fab! It all looks so professional and well put together.

    I do love a matte lip too, if lip glosses are too sticky they annoy me so much. I keep meaning to pick up MAC's Please Me, it's such a gorgeous everyday colour x
