Beauty Icon: Audrey Hepburn


I feel almost a little cliché writing this post, as it has become almost clichéd to love Audrey Hepburn, yet it's almost impossible not to. One of the biggest icons in film history, she's still often cited as one of the world's most beautiful women — even though she didn't always view herself that way. She disliked her crooked teeth, large feet, and flat chest — "I never thought I'd land in pictures with a face like mine," she once said — but those so-called flaws made her even more likeable.
Not everyone is born with Audrey Hepburn's eyes or magnificent bone structure, or her diminutive frame. And while we may never look like Audrey, there are beauty tips and tricks to be learnt from the clever makeup artists of Old Hollywood to bring out the best of our features and bestow on us some of her grace and beauty. First stop - skin. Audrey's skin was constantly fresh, youthful and dewy. If you're reading this you're probably as obsessed with a fine skincare routine as I am, so I wont start preaching but I really recommend Benefit That Girl brightening primer which gives a long-lasting dewy glow.
Audrey was famed for her brows, but they are without question, tricky to recreate. To do so, practise makes perfect. You want a fairly-straight, thick brow without too much of an arch. My ultimate brow-tool is Mac Eyebrow Pencil in Spiked, a dark brown which would have been perfect for Audrey's colouring, but I've also heard nothing but rave reviews for Benefit Brow-Zings, which is a combination of wax and powder to finish. Be careful not to go too crazy on the brows, you want them to complement your face, not the stuck-on-caterpillar-scouse-brow that's all too common at the moment...
Audery's eye makeup is very similar to my own day-to-day look, a light natural look that simply does what makeup should, complements the skin tone and enhances the eye shape. For a lighter daytime look, use a tender pink shadow on lids and contour it in the crease and corner of the lid with a taupe shadow, always finished with a sweep of black liquid liner. For a smokier or evening look, deepen the shadow color to a dark brown on the lid and expand subtly beyond crease, blending/fading outward. My go-to eyeshadows are all from Mac and include; All That Glitters, Sable, Wedge, Patina, Satin Taupe and a little Black Tied when the occasion arises. Enhance your lashes the Audrey way with individual false lashes applied to the outer corners, yet if you haven't the full set of thick glossy lashes, stick a natural looking set on over the essential liquid liner, Mac no 2 lashes are perfect.

Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you'll find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others. 8. The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. 9.  The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode, but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows. 10. The beauty of a woman grows with the passing years.
